The British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy holds a public register for therapists who have met their criteria for registration. This criteria covers training, supervision, continuing professional development and a commitment to the BACP Ethical Framework. This register was established in 2012 by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care, an independent body accountable to the Government. The main purpose is to protect the public and to reassure clients that a registered therapist adheres to high standards of proficiency and good practice.
